Beta Alpha Psi - Beta Chapter - Bylaws 

Article I: Name 

The name of this organization is the Beta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi at The University of Oregon. 

Article II: Purposes 

The purpose of Beta Alpha Psi is to engage with members, industry and educational institutions associated with the Beta Alpha Psi Professions to: 

 

Academic Excellence 
Motivate, recognize and celebrate academic excellence 
 
Professional Development 
Facilitate workplace readiness, employment, credentialing, mentoring, networking and lifelong learning 
 
Responsible Practices 
Foster a commitment to ethics, service, belonging, and environmental, social, governance-responsible practices 
 
Advocacy 
Advocate for the benefits of education, practice, credentialing and partnering associated with the Beta Alpha Psi Professions 
 
Shaping 
Support the shaping of the relevant and successful evolution of education, practice and credentialing associated with the Beta Alpha Psi Professions 

Article III: Members 

Eligibility for membership in this chapter shall extend to all current students at The University of Oregon. All chapter members may vote in chapter matters, particularly during executive leader elections. 

To become a member

  • Receive 15 points within one term. 10 points max in either professional or volunteer activities. 

  • Have a minimum cumulative and accounting GPA of 3.0 

  • Be currently enrolled in or completed ACTG 213 

To become a Gold Member: 

  • A student must receive 25 points max with an 8 point minimum in professional activities and must already be an active member. 

Associate membership is only available to those who are not able to be enrolled in ACTG 213 yet. However, they will have to go through the full 15 points once they are in ACTG 213 otherwise they will lose their membership and access to member benefits. 

After one becomes a member, they must get at least 5 point every term of either volunteer or professional activities. Otherwise, their membership will be retired, and they will have to reach the 15-point requirement again however, are not required to pay the membership fee again. 

Article IV: Student Chapter Membership Ceremony 

Candidates who have met the requirements for membership must be present for the member initiation ceremony. A membership ceremony in absentia will be granted only under extreme circumstances and the membership ceremony in absentia must be approved by the BAP Executives. The official membership ceremony shall be used. 

Article V: Election of Officers 

During the week 10 meeting of winter term, all officer applicants will give a presentation for two minutes giving the members the reason why they would make the best individual fit for the respective position.  

After all the presentations, all present members will vote on the next officers to fill the positions. If a position wasn’t filled while another role had multiple applicants, then any runner ups can choose to switch into the vacant role. Another vote will be held if multipole runner ups go for the vacant role. 

In the case of a tie, another vote will be held. If a stalemate occurs, then there will be a classic coin toss with a fair coin. 

Article VI: Officers and Organization 

The officers of this organization shall be the President, Vice President of Programs, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Membership, Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of VITA. All officers must be members in Beta Alpha Psi’s Beta Chapter. The terms of office shall range between Officer, please see below: 

*There will be overlap between the President and VP of Finance roll. During this time the outgoing Officers are ONLY responsible for the End of Year report. * 

  • President, one full year. Spring term to Spring term. 

  • VP of Programs; Spring term to Winter term; still responsible for the following spring term speakers. 

  • VP of Finance; one full year. Spring term to Spring term. 

  • VP of Membership; Spring term to Winter term 

  • VP of Marketing; Spring term to Winter term 

  • VP of VITA; Spring term to Winter term.  

Officers may serve no more than one term in the same role. If an officer wants to serve two consecutive terms, they must switch positions.  

President: 

The duties of the president shall include carrying out the policies of the chapter, exercising general supervision over the activities of the chapter, organizing events, volunteer events, weekly newsletter emails, maintaining Intranet reporting to National Chapter, and presiding at meetings of the chapter. In the absence of any officers, the president is responsible for their roles and may disperse those responsibilities if they feel the need to do so. The president is still a member of the club.  

Vice President of Programs: 

The duties of the VP of Programs shall include reaching out to firms and potential speakers to speak at Beta Alpha Psi’s weekly meetings and participating within meetings about future club activities. In the absence of the President, the Vice President will cover all their roles. The VP of Programs is still a member of the club. 

Vice President of Finance: 

The duties of the VP of Finance shall include keeping a record of all purchases and revenue of the chapter, preparing financial statements, working on yearly taxes with the faculty advisor, and receiving all membership dues. The VP of Finance is responsible for maintaining integrity with the club’s debit card, if this is abused consequences will be incurred. In the absence of the president and vice president, the VP of Finance shall take over their roles and distribute as they see fit. The VP of Finance is still a member of the club. 

Vice President of Membership: 

The duties of the VP of Membership include; keeping a record of all members points collected throughout the term, maintaining communication with pledges in correlation to their membership with the club, distributing the certificates of membership and appropriate cords to the respective members that have requested them, and reporting membership numbers/member information to the National Office via Intranet. The VP of Membership is still a member of the club. 

Vice President of Marketing: 

The duties of the VP of Marketing shall include: maintain posting on Instagram, developing/updating the website, posting on LinkedIn, reaching out to all professors with a weekly slide showing our speaker or event going on that week, and all marketing for any events. The VP of Marketing is still a member of the club. 

Vice President of VITA: 

The duties of the VP of VITA shall include: the setup, training, and exercise supervision over all the activities that are VITA related. The VP of VITA is still a member of the club. 

General Responsibilities of all officers: All officers are responsible for; participating in national and regional meetings, speaking in classrooms to inform students about future events, and maintaining the success of Beta Alpha Psi. 

When an officer has resigned or is disqualified, the office shall be filled by a special election of the chapter, which shall be held as promptly as is feasible. The executive committee is empowered to fill vacancies in any elective office until a special election is held. The person so elected shall hold office for the remainder of the term. 

Article VII: Dues 

When a pledge fulfills all membership requirements, they must pay a $100 USD initiation fee to the VP of Finance prior to initiation. This initial fee will be used to fund chapter activities, as well as provide a graduation cord (redeemable term prior to graduation) and other new member memorabilia. 

Gold and Associate members do not pay any dues. 

Article VIII: Meetings 

Meetings shall be held on a weekly basis on each Thursday of a regular academic term—barring a holiday landing on Thursday. These meetings must work toward the betterment of the chapter members, either through guest speakers or professional education. 

Events and Volunteering won’t land on Thursdays and will be spread throughout the week. 

Article IX: Dissolution 

Upon dissolution, any remaining net assets of Beta Alpha Psi shall be distributed solely to other exempt organizations that qualify under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3), as in effect January 1, 1987, or succeeding statutory provisions. 

Article X: Amendments 

These bylaws may be amended by the new officer team every year. After it has been amended officers may no longer change the ByLaws unless they set forth a special meeting among officers and the majority vote says the change is okay to make.
